PUBLICATIONS

Professor Michael Tansey is an economist trained at Harvard University (B.A. in 1970) and the University of Wisconsin (M.A. in 1975 and Ph.D. in 1978). He was a Brookings scholar (1976-77), received several awards for his teaching including the AMOCO award in 1981,  and received an Honorary Degree of Humane Letters from the Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences (2003).  While at Rockhurst, he has developed a curriculum for executive learning in international economics for Rockhurst’s Executive Fellows Program, a course in leadership, a lecture series on leadership and the arts, distance learning courses, and an M.B.A. for doctors and medical students.  From 2000 to 2003 he established and directed Rockhurst’s new Health Care Leadership program.  His professional publications range through industrial organization, economics of art and leadership, public choice and public policy, entrepreneurship and economic education. He has been the author of many publications for the teaching of undergraduate economics.  His government experience includes a three year stint in the U.S. Executive Office of the President (Office of Emergency Preparedness and Cost of Living Council- 1971-1973) in the President’s price control program.  His past business experience includes service on the board at Hillcrest bank and consulting projects with corporations including  Sprint, Valentine Radford, Kimberly Quality Care, the Kansas City Star, Union Station, Science City, and KCPL.
